Though this is an unofficial app, it’s worth highlighting that both the update downloads and the content they contain are completely legitimate, based on the files distributed by the company as OTA (over-the-air) updates from previous months. The trick lies in that the fact that the petition gets made through a proxy that makes the remote server believe that it’s “time” to update your device. In principle the compatibility with EMUI 4 is complete, but for version 5 of the Huawei customization layer you’ve got to enable the option to trick the company’s version control system using a proxy.

To activate it go to the left pullout menu, access Settings, and tick Use proxy for install, which will install a small update in the process. Just keep in mind the one detail that could even end up bricking your device if you’re not careful: you’ve got to know which version you’re installing. When you click the Refresh button and see all the versions, you’ll realize there are two different kinds: standard OTA ones and the Full versions. The latter take up more than 1GB in addition to all the packages needed to rewrite the full firmware.

The other, smaller files can be considered patches that get installed on the firmware you’re currently using. The problem is that it’s OBLIGATORY to have the specific firmware installed that the update is designed for, as otherwise you could find yourself in a lot of problems. To check whether the firmware to be downloaded is compatible with your version and region, you can do the following: tap the firmware in question, go to Check Firmware Access, and from there pick With IMEI. You’ll get a window there indicating whether the device is compatible with this particular version. We note again that Firmware Finder is not a fraudulent app nor does it require any kind of root permissions to work. Hence it’s a fantastic tool for people who are eager to get updates for their devices as soon as possible.

It’s also particularly useful for people who buy devices internationally, as in many cases they get firmware updates much later than everyone else because of exclusivity agreements or local impacts on devices associated with a particular service provider.

Firmware

The Chinese tech giant Huawei builds a massive range of smartphones for all of high-, mid- and low-end segments. But when it comes to software updates, not everybody receives the latest update from Huawei at the same time — whether that be update, or itself — which is why you may want to install the update all by yourself. Regional restrictions can keep you away from receiving the OTA notification for weeks, and even months.

Since firmware files are easily available online, you can always flash the files yourself. But in order to do so, you need to extract firmware first. We’ve created a guide to help you through every step of extracting the firmware from the Update.zip file.

Table of content: • • • • • Things you will need: • (Windows only) • (Huawei firmware database) • • Archive extractor such as. Step 1: Identifying your device firmware build Before you head over to the Huawei firmware database linked above, you will need to find out the build number of your device.

To do so, simply head over to Settings – System – About Phone – Build Number. • For example, the build number of a Huawei Mate 10 Pro running Android 8.0 Oreo would be the following – BLA-L29 8.0.0.132(C636) • In order to find out the firmware version of the Huawei device, you need to replace the Android version (8.0.0.) with the model number (C636). Also, you need to add “ B” in front of the final digits of the build number (132). • So, the firmware version of the build number BLA-L29 8.0.0.132(C636) would be BLA-L29C636B132. Step 2: Download the Update.zip file So now you can simply use the firmware version of your Huawei device and use the firmware database to find and download the necessary files.

• Copy the firmware version that you have derived from the build number of the device. • Paste it into the Huawei firmware database website and press the Find Model • On the search result page, look for the listing that reads “ FullOTA-MF”. • Press the “ update” button right next to it and allow the “ zip” file to be downloaded. • Once you have the “ zip” file downloaded on your computer, use your archive extractor to extract the “ UPDATE.APP” file to a folder where you can easily find it.
